Kormac
Kormac started out as a hip-hop scratch DJ and MPC beat-maker.
Across three albums, hundreds of live shows worldwide and an expanding body of work for film and television, he has developed a distinctive sound that blends orchestral writing, electronics and found sounds into cinematic, emotionally driven scores.
Most recently, Kormac composed the score for Dear England, the BBC adaptation of the acclaimed stage play, directed by Paul Whittington and Rupert Goold and starring Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid's Tale) and Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who). Recorded with a live orchestra in Budapest, the score combines orchestral performances, guitar-led themes and driving electronic textures.
He also recently completed the score for These Sacred Vows, the six-part drama created and directed by John Butler. Set around the events of a destination wedding and told through multiple perspectives, the series blends comedy and drama through an ensemble cast led by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Justine Mitchell (Hamnet).
Alongside his screen work, Kormac returned to releasing artist material in 2025 with the singles Hazy and Down Below featuring Katie Kim (ØXN), introducing a new body of electronic work that combines modular synthesis, live instrumentation and immersive visual design. These releases form part of an evolving audiovisual live show featuring bespoke visuals and live electronics.
In 2024, Kormac composed the original score for Stephen Knight's This Town for BBC One and iPlayer. He helped shape the series' musical identity by integrating performances from Dan Carey, Kae Tempest, Gregory Porter, Celeste, Olivia Dean and Self Esteem into the soundtrack, creating a cohesive musical language across all six episodes. The soundtrack was subsequently released by Mercury/Universal.
Other screen work includes RTÉ's The Boy That Never Was, starring Colin Morgan and Toni O'Rourke, The Diplomat for World Productions and ITV Studios, the Emmy-nominated documentary Swift Justice for The New Yorker, the feature film Tarrac, and the international television dramas Professionals and Red Election.
Away from screen work, his most recent album, Equivalent Exchange, saw him compose a suite of material for orchestra and collaborators including Loah, Jafaris, Jack O'Rourke, MayKay, Shahab & Shayan Coohe and Stephen James Smith. Created alongside acclaimed visual artist Maser, the project culminated in a 30-piece live production that sold out Dublin's National Concert Hall in March 2024.
Kormac first came to wider attention through his albums Doorsteps and Word Play, building a reputation for ambitious collaborations and genre-defying production. While making Doorsteps, he famously knocked on the doors of artists including Irvine Welsh, Speech Debelle and Micah P. Hinson, creating a record unlike anything else in Irish music.
Known for blurring the boundaries between club music, orchestral composition and audiovisual performance, he has appeared at festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Electric Picnic and Sonar, and toured throughout Europe, Australia and Canada alongside Portishead, Nas, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth and Snarky Puppy. More recent appearances include performances alongside Kneecap and Faithless, as well as presentations of his live AV show at Other Voices and Beyond The Pale. His music has accumulated more than 80 million streams worldwide.
